We're excited to share a recap from our recent open house/artist reception to celebrate the launch our new show “WEE#RESIST: Miniaturists Confront Cultural Fears and Provide Commentary on an Unstable World.”
The exhibition, guest curated by Dr. Louise Krasniewicz (Department of Anthropology, University of Pennsylvania), explores the growing issues, challenges, and controversies facing all people as we move together through this period of uncertainty.
Works selected for inclusion in WEE#RESIST were based on criteria that include artistic originality, integrity, superior technique, and the ability to inspire future thought and discussion. The piece above, by Lauren Carly Shaw, involves a scene reminiscent of "Gulliver’s Travels" by making the president appear larger than the masses.
Artist Jill Orlov shared her inspiration for "O", her submission for the show. Through a rotating view of two opposing worlds: the office of the former administration versus the current Oval Office she presents the opposite of reality, opposition and feelings of oppression that have resulted from recent executive orders.
Guest Curator Louise Krasniewicz (middle) talks about her work, "She Persisted," featured in the show. The show includes cultural perspectives from 12 miniaturists from across the globe; Althea Crome, Thomas Doyle, Camilla Hallgren, William Kass, Issam Kourbaj, Mackenzie McAlpin, Nix + Gerber, Pat O’Brien, Diana Maria Rossi and Lauren Carly Shaw.
